What is the eligibility for Marriage of NRN in Nepal?

Both individuals must meet the eligibility criteria established by the laws of their respective home countries. However, pursuant to Section 70 of the Civil Code, 2017, the following criteria have been set:

• Both individuals must be unmarried/single at the time of registration;
• The minimum legal age for marriage is 20 years for both men and women;
• The marriage must be conducted with mutual consent; and
• The couple should not be closely related to avoid incestuous marriage restrictions.

Both Partners should be of Legal Age (20 Years or Older) and not already married to someone else. Any other requirements as provided by the National Civil Code must be fulfilled before marriage in Nepal.

What are the required documents for the Court Marriage of NRN in Nepal?

NRNs intending to do court marriage in Nepal must prepare and submit the following documents:

1. No-Objection Letter from the respective Embassy or Consulate in Nepal.
2. Translated and Notarized Copy of the marriage law of the foreign country in the Nepali language.
3. Proof of Residence for at least 15 days from the concerned Ward Office.
4. Copy of Passport with Visa.
5. Single status recommendation letter from the concerned Ward Office. (For Nepali Citizen)
